Settings overview and search

Search Settings to open the page for your account, team, branding, pipeline, documents, or integrations.

Written by Jarrett White

Overview

Settings is where you configure your own account and, if you have access, your organization's team, branding, pipelines, documents, client experience, and integrations. Settings are grouped into categories, and a Search settings box at the top of the Settings menu finds a page by its name or a related word.

Every team member can open their own account pages. Organization-wide pages appear only for admins and for team members whose permissions allow them, so two people in the same organization can see different Settings menus.

At a glance

  • Settings opens on Profile. Search settings matches page names and related words, not the text inside a page.

  • You only see pages your permissions allow. A hidden page is also missing from search.

  • Members and Collaborators show Subscription Required without an active subscription.

  • Admins see every page. Roles & Permissions is admins only.

Before you begin

You need permission to open Settings, and some pages need an extra permission or an active subscription.

  • To open Settings at all, you must be an admin or have the Access Admin Settings permission. Team members have it by default.

  • Members and Collaborators need an active subscription. Without one, these pages show Subscription Required instead of their content.

  • Some pages need extra permissions, listed below.

Settings categories

Settings groups its pages into these categories.

  • My Account: Account (login, security, and billing), Profile (the profile clients see), Preferences (theme, sidebar, display, language), Email Signatures.

  • Branding & Assets: Company Profile, Email Branding, Media Library.

  • Team & Access: Members, Collaborators, Roles & Permissions, Training Modules.

  • Pipeline & Workflow: Pipelines, Commissions, Stage Updates, Custom Fields.

  • Documents & Compliance: Checklist Templates, Compliance Documents, Unsubscribes & consent, Smart Docs, Vault.

  • Client Experience: Applications, Client Portal, Homeowner Hub, Referrals.

  • Integrations: Connections.

A New badge marks recently added pages, such as Compliance Documents, Applications, and Referrals.

Which pages you can see

Which Settings pages you can open depends on whether you are an admin and which permissions you have.

Admins see every page. For other team members, each page depends on a permission. Most of these permissions are listed under Legacy - Settings and Legacy - Admin on Settings > Roles & Permissions, so an admin needs to tick Show legacy permissions to see them.

  • Account, Profile, Preferences, Email Signatures, and Referrals: everyone.

  • Members: Team Management Settings. Inviting, editing, and removing members also needs Manage Team.

  • Collaborators: Manage Collaborators.

  • Company Profile and Email Branding: Company Settings.

  • Pipelines, Commissions, Stage Updates, Checklist Templates, Compliance Documents, and Unsubscribes & consent: Pipeline Configuration.

  • Smart Docs, Applications, and Vault: Pipeline Configuration or Company Settings.

  • Media Library, Training Modules, Client Portal, and Homeowner Hub: Company Settings.

  • Custom Fields: the custom field management permission, which is off for team members by default.

  • Connections: Integrations Settings.

  • Roles & Permissions: admins only.

Team members have Team Management Settings, Company Settings, Billing Settings, Pipeline Configuration, and Integrations Settings turned on by default, so a new team member usually sees most pages. Seeing a page does not always mean you can change everything on it. Some pages limit specific actions to admins, as described in each page's article.

Pages you cannot open are hidden from the menu and from search results.

Step-by-step instructions

These steps open Settings, find a page with search, and collapse a category.

Open Settings

Open Settings from the left sidebar. It opens on Profile.

  1. In the left sidebar, select Settings. It is pinned at the bottom of the sidebar and cannot be hidden.

  2. Settings opens on Profile.

  3. Select any page in the Settings menu on the left to open it.

On a phone or narrow window, the Settings menu sits above the page content, and a back button at the top returns you to the previous screen.

Find a setting with search

Find a setting with search when you know part of the page name or a related word.

  1. Click the Search settings box at the top of the Settings menu.

  2. Type part of a page name or a related word, for example password, sidebar, loom, or gmail.

  3. The menu narrows to matching pages and expands the categories that contain them.

  4. Select the page you want.

  5. To see the full menu again, clear the search box.

Search matches page names and a short list of related words for each page. It does not search the text, field names, or descriptions inside a page. If a word finds nothing, try the name of the page instead.

Some useful search words:

  • password, 2fa, billing, invoice, plan find Account.

  • theme, sidebar, language, kanban, landing tab find Preferences.

  • video, loom, youtube, realtor, partner find Stage Updates.

  • auto, requests find Smart Docs.

  • credentials, secrets find Vault.

  • gmail, calendar, twilio, sms, velocity, finmo find Connections.

Collapse or expand a category

Collapse or expand a category to shorten the Settings menu when the search box is empty.

When the search box is empty, every category is expanded. Click a category heading to collapse it, and click it again to expand it.

Practical examples and other ways to use it

These examples use Search settings to jump to a page.

  • Change your password. Search password and open Account.

  • Hide a sidebar item you never use. Search sidebar and open Preferences, then use Sidebar items.

  • Add a stage video for clients. Search loom and open Stage Updates.

  • Restrict what a new hire can see. As an admin, open Roles & Permissions. See Roles and permissions.

Common mistakes and how to avoid them

These mistakes make search look empty or make a teammate's menu look wrong.

  • Searching for a field name. Search only matches page names and related words, so a field such as "Postal prefix" returns nothing. Search for the page instead (for example profile). To avoid this, think about which page the setting belongs to.

  • Expecting a teammate to see the same menu as you. Menus depend on permissions, so the menu you see is not proof of what a teammate sees. Ask an admin to compare permissions on Roles & Permissions.

Troubleshooting

Use this section when Settings, a Settings page, or search does not show what you expect.

"Access Denied — You don't have permission to access settings."

This message appears when you are not allowed to open Settings.

Possible causes: You are not an admin and your Access Admin Settings permission is off.

Check first: Ask an admin whether your permissions were changed recently.

To fix:

  1. An admin opens Settings > Roles & Permissions, ticks Show legacy permissions, and selects you.

  2. They turn on Access Admin Settings under Legacy - Admin.

  3. Reload Broki in your browser.

Confirm it worked: Settings opens on Profile.

"Access Denied — You don't have permission to access this settings section."

This message appears when you open a Settings page your permissions don't cover.

Possible causes: You opened a saved link or bookmark to a page your permissions don't cover.

To fix:

  1. Select Back to Dashboard, or choose another page in the Settings menu.

  2. If you need the page, ask an admin to turn on the permission listed in Which pages you can see, then reload Broki.

A page I need is missing from the menu or search

A page is missing from the menu or search when you don't have its permission, or your browser still has older permissions.

Possible causes: You don't have the permission for that page, or your permissions were changed and your browser is still using the old ones.

To fix:

  1. Ask an admin to check your permissions.

  2. Reload Broki in your browser so it loads your current permissions.

Contact support if: An admin confirms the permission is on, you have reloaded, and the page is still missing.

Members or Collaborators shows "Subscription Required"

Members or Collaborators shows Subscription Required when the organization has no active subscription.

Possible causes: Your organization has no active subscription.

To fix: Select Set Up Billing and complete billing, or ask the person who manages billing to do it. See Billing and subscription.

Limitations and important behavior

These limits apply to the Settings menu and to Search settings.

  • Search matches page names and a fixed list of related words in English. It does not search inside pages.

  • The menu shows pages, not sections inside a page. For example, Client updates and Partner updates are both inside Stage Updates.

  • Older links to the Billing page open Account, and older links to stage videos open Stage Updates.

  • Settings stays in the sidebar for everyone and cannot be hidden.

Frequently asked questions

These are questions people ask about opening Settings and using search.

Why does Settings always open on Profile? Profile is the default page. Use the menu or search to move to another page.

Can I search for a lender or file from Settings? No. Settings search only finds Settings pages.

Why does my teammate see Members but I don't? Members depends on the Team Management Settings permission. Your admin can compare your permissions on Roles & Permissions.
