Overview
Settings > Account is where you change the email you sign in with, the display name that appears in the From field of emails you send, and your password. It also contains the Billing section for your organization's subscription, which is covered in its own article.
Every team member can open Account and change their own login details. Changing your email or password signs you out on every device, so plan the change for a moment when you can sign straight back in.
At a glance
At a glance, Account covers your login email, display name, password, and the emailed sign-in code.
Change your login email from Settings > Account. Both your current inbox and your new inbox must open a verification link within 24 hours.
Changing your email or password signs you out on every device.
Display name (from name) is the name clients see in the From field. Leave it blank to use your profile name.
Every sign-in asks for a 6-digit code emailed to you. There is no authenticator-app setting.
Settings > Account has Email & password for your login email, display name, and password, and Billing when your role allows it.
Before you begin
Before you change your login details, make sure you can reach the right inbox and know your current password.
You need access to the inbox of your current login email. Changing your email sends a verification link to both the current and the new address.
To change your password, you need your current password. If you have forgotten it, use the password reset on the login page instead (see Login, signup, and password reset).
The Billing section only appears if your role allows billing access. See Billing and subscription.
Step-by-step instructions
These steps show how to open Account, change your email, display name, and password, and sign in with the emailed code.
Open your account settings
To open your account settings, start in Settings and select Account.
Open Settings.
Under My Account, select Account.
In the left column, select Email & password. If you can see Billing there too, that section is described in Billing and subscription.
Change your login email
To change your login email, confirm the change and open the verification link in both inboxes within 24 hours.
Before you continue: once you confirm the change, you will be signed out on all devices and your old email will stop working for login.
In the Email address card, enter the address in New email address.
Select Update email.
Read the Confirm email change message. It lists both addresses and what happens next. Select OK to continue, or Cancel to stop.
Open both inboxes and select the verification link in each email. Both links must be selected within 24 hours.
Both inboxes must select a verification link within 24 hours. Broki then signs you out on all devices.
What happens: Broki shows "Verification emails sent to … Click the link in BOTH inboxes to complete the change." Once both links are selected, the change takes effect and you are signed out everywhere.
Confirm it worked: sign in with the new email address. The old address no longer works for login.
Change your email display name
To change your email display name, update the From name clients see when you send email from Broki.
Your display name is how your name appears in the From field when you send email from Broki.
Also called: from name.
In the Email display name card, enter a name in Display name (from name). For example, "Alex Sample — Mortgage Advisor".
Select Update display name.
What happens: Broki shows "Display name updated successfully!" Leave the field blank to use your profile name instead.
Change your password
To change your password, enter your current password and a new one that meets the rules on the card.
Before you continue: after the password changes, you are signed out on all devices, including this one.
In the Password card, enter your Current password.
Enter a New password and repeat it in Confirm new password. Select the eye icon to show or hide what you typed.
Check the new password meets the Password requirements listed on the card: at least 8 characters, uppercase and lowercase letters, at least one number, at least one special character, and it must differ from your current password.
Select Update password.
What happens: Broki checks your current password, saves the new one and shows "Password updated. You have been signed out on all devices - please log in again."
Confirm it worked: sign in with your email and new password, then enter the 6-digit code Broki emails you.
Enter the emailed sign-in code
To enter the emailed sign-in code, use the 6-digit code Broki sends every time you sign in with your email and password.
Every time you sign in with your email and password, Broki emails a 6-digit code to your login email and shows Verify your email. Enter or paste the code and select Verify email. If the email does not arrive, select Resend code. This email code is the second step of every sign-in; there is no separate authenticator-app setting.
Practical examples and other ways to use it
These examples show when to change your email, ask an admin to change it, change a password, or set a display name.
You changed brokerages and have a new work email. Change your login email while you still have access to the old inbox, because both inboxes must confirm the change.
A colleague lost access to their old inbox. They can't finish the change themselves. An admin can change it for them from Settings > Members with Change email… (see Team members and invites). The admin change takes effect immediately, signs the member out everywhere and sends no email to either address, so the admin has to tell the member another way.
You suspect someone else knows your password. Change it. Every other device that was signed in is signed out and has to sign in again with the new password and an emailed code.
Clients see a generic sender name. Set Display name (from name) to something clients recognize, such as "Alex Sample — Example Mortgages".
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
These mistakes cover verification links, signing back in, reusing a password, and the display name.
Selecting only one verification link. The email change stays pending and your login email doesn't change. Select the link in both the current and the new inbox within 24 hours. If the links expire, start again from Update email.
Changing your email from a device you can't sign back in on. You are signed out everywhere once the change completes. Make the change where you have access to the new inbox, so you can receive the sign-in code.
Reusing the current password. Broki rejects it with "New password must be different from current password". Choose a new one.
Expecting the display name to change your login. The display name only affects the From name on emails. Your login email stays the same.
Troubleshooting
Use this section when an email or password change fails, or the sign-in code does not arrive.
"Current password is incorrect"
"Current password is incorrect" means Broki did not accept the current password you entered.
Possible causes
The current password was mistyped.
The password was changed on another device.
Check first
Select the eye icon and check what you typed.
To fix
Re-enter your current password carefully.
If you don't know it, sign out and use Forgot password? on the login page.
Confirm it worked: the password change completes and you are signed out on all devices.
"New email must be different from current email"
"New email must be different from current email" means the address you entered is already your login email.
Possible causes
The address you entered is the one you already sign in with. Upper and lower case don't count as a difference.
To fix
Enter a different address in New email address.
The verification emails never arrived
Use this section when the verification emails for an email change never arrived.
Possible causes
The new address was mistyped.
The emails went to a spam or junk folder.
More than 24 hours passed and the links expired.
Check first
Search both inboxes, including spam, for the verification emails.
To fix
Return to Settings > Account and submit the new address again with Update email.
If you've lost access to your current inbox, ask an admin to use Change email… in Settings > Members.
Confirm it worked: you can sign in with the new email.
Contact support if the emails still don't arrive after a second attempt. Include the time you made the request and a screenshot of the message Broki showed. Don't send your password.
I didn't get the 6-digit sign-in code
Use this section when the 6-digit sign-in code did not arrive.
Possible causes
The code email went to spam or junk.
You're checking a different inbox from your login email.
To fix
Select Resend code on the Verify your email screen.
Check the inbox of the email address shown on that screen.
Contact support if no code arrives after resending. Include your login email address and the approximate time you tried.
Tips and best practices
These tips help you change your email while you still have the old inbox, and set a display name before you send email.
Change your email before you lose access to the old inbox. Both addresses must confirm, so it's much simpler while you still have both.
Use a password you don't use anywhere else. The emailed sign-in code protects the account, but a unique password means a leak elsewhere can't be reused here.
Set your display name once you join. Clients see it on every email you send from Broki, so it's worth setting before you send the first one.
Limitations and important behavior
These limits describe what email and password changes do, and what Account does not include.
Email and password changes sign you out on all devices.
Email change links expire after 24 hours, and both must be selected.
You can only change your own account here. Admins change other people's login email from Settings > Members. That admin change needs no verification and sends no notification.
Broki has no list of active sessions and no authenticator-app option. The emailed 6-digit code at every sign-in is the second step.
Your billing email for the subscription is separate from your login email. Changing your login email doesn't change where invoices are sent.
Frequently asked questions
These questions cover the sign-in code, where billing lives, and the display name.
How do I turn off the emailed sign-in code? You can't. Every sign-in with email and password asks for the 6-digit code.
Where do I manage the subscription, payment card, or invoices? In Settings > Account > Billing, if your role allows it. See Billing and subscription.
Will changing my display name change my profile name? No. It only changes the From name on email. Your profile is edited in Settings > Profile.
