1. What Client Portal Branding Controls
The client portal is the branded space your clients log into to view their application status, documents, scenarios, offers, and your team. Everything the client sees in the portal can be customized to match your brokerage's branding — from colors and logos to the tabs that are visible and the messages they see.
Branding the portal well makes a significant difference in how professional and trustworthy your business appears to clients. A fully branded portal feels like your own product rather than a generic third-party tool.
Logos and loading screen | Your company logos and collapsed icon control what appears in the portal header and loading screen. |
Brand colors | Your primary brand color from Company Settings affects button colors and key UI elements throughout the portal. |
Tab colors | Each tab along the top of the portal can have its own custom color or gradient. |
Section headers | Header elements within tabs (like the Your Team section) can be colored to match your brand. |
Tab visibility | Choose which tabs show in the portal and when — always, never, or only when content is available. |
Review banner | A persistent banner at the bottom of the portal encouraging clients to leave a review, with your custom message and link. |
App banner | An optional banner linking clients to your mortgage calculator app on iOS or Google Play. |
2. Prerequisites — Company Profile Setup
Before customizing the client portal, make sure your Company Profile is fully configured. Several portal branding elements pull directly from your company settings.
📍 Settings → Company Profile
Upload your light mode and dark mode logos — these appear in the portal header.
Upload your collapsed sidebar icon / emblem — this is what appears on the portal loading screen (see Section 3).
Set your primary brand color — this drives button colors and key interactive elements throughout the portal.
Fill in all company details (name, website, email, phone, address).
⚠ Do not skip the collapsed sidebar icon upload. This is the image that shows on the loading screen when clients open the portal. If it is not uploaded, the loading screen will have no branding. See Section 3 for details.
3. The Loading Screen — A Hidden Branding Moment
Every time a client opens their portal, a loading screen appears briefly while the portal loads. The icon displayed in the center of this loading screen is pulled directly from your collapsed sidebar icon — the small logo or symbol you upload for when the platform sidebar is collapsed to icon-only mode.
The loading screen icon is NOT a separate upload — it uses the same image as your collapsed sidebar emblem.
To update the loading screen: go to Settings → Company Profile → Branding → upload your icon in the Collapsed Sidebar Icon slot.
Use a clean, high-contrast icon or symbol — your logo mark, initials, or brand icon works best. Avoid full wordmark logos as they will be very small on the loading screen.
This is an easy but impactful branding detail. Clients see this screen every time they open the portal — make sure it shows your brand, not a blank or generic image.
4. Where to Find Portal Settings
📍 Settings → Client Experience → Portal Settings
All client portal customization options are found in the Portal Settings section under Client Experience in your Settings. This is separate from your Company Profile — Company Profile handles platform-wide branding, while Portal Settings controls the client-facing portal specifically.
5. Welcome Title and Message
The first thing clients see when they open their portal is a welcome area at the top. You can customize both the title and the welcome message to set the right tone for your client experience.
Go to Settings → Client Experience → Portal Settings.
Find the Welcome Title field and enter your preferred heading (e.g. 'Welcome to your mortgage portal' or your brokerage name).
Find the Welcome Message field and enter a short message greeting your client and explaining what they can find in the portal.
Click Save Changes.
Best practice: Keep the welcome message warm and brief. Something like 'This is your dedicated portal for tracking your mortgage file, uploading documents, and staying up to date throughout the process.' Let them know what the portal is for in plain language.
6. Tabs and Layout — Showing and Hiding Portal Tabs
The portal has multiple tabs — Application Status, Documents, Scenarios, Qualification, Offers, and Your Team. You can control when each tab is shown to the client.
When Available (recommended) | The tab only appears in the portal when there is actually content to show the client. If you have not added any offers yet, the Offers tab will not appear — reducing clutter and confusion. This is the default and recommended setting for most tabs. |
Always | The tab always appears in the portal even if it has no content. Use this sparingly — empty tabs can confuse clients or make the portal feel incomplete. |
Never | The tab is always hidden regardless of whether content exists. Use this if you know you will never use a specific feature (e.g. if you never use the Qualification tool, set it to Never). |
The When Available setting is the best default for all tabs. There is no benefit to showing a client an empty Scenarios or Offers tab — it only creates unnecessary questions. Let the tabs appear naturally as you add content to each file.
7. Tab Colors — Start and End Gradient Explained
Each tab along the top of the client portal has a color that you can customize. The color system uses a start and end value — this is because each tab color is actually a gradient that transitions from the start color on the left to the end color on the right.
Start color | The color on the left side of the tab. This is where the gradient begins. |
End color | The color on the right side of the tab. This is where the gradient ends. If the end color is lighter or darker than the start, the tab will have a visible gradient effect. |
Available tabs you can color
Documents tab | Color for the Documents tab in the portal navigation. |
Start (Application Status) | The start color for the Application Status tab. |
End (Application Status) | The end color for the Application Status tab. |
Other tabs | Each portal tab has its own start and end color fields — configure each one individually. |
You can see the current tab colors in the live portal. Go into any mortgage file → click Actions → View Client Portal to preview exactly how your colors look in real time before finalizing them.
8. How to Set a Solid Color (No Gradient)
If you want a tab to display as a flat, solid color with no gradient effect, simply set the start and end color to the exact same value.
1 | Open portal settings Go to Settings → Client Experience → Portal Settings → Colors tab. |
2 | Find the tab you want to change Locate the start and end color fields for the specific tab. |
3 | Set both to the same color Click the start color picker and select or enter your brand color hex code. Then click the end color picker and enter the exact same hex code. |
4 | Click Save Changes The tab will now display as a flat solid color with no gradient. |
5 | Refresh the client portal to verify Open any file → Actions → View Client Portal and confirm the tab color looks correct. |
Solid colors typically look cleaner and more professional than gradients — especially if your brand uses flat design. Unless you have a specific reason for a gradient, setting start and end to the same value is the recommended approach.
9. Section Headers and Brand Color
Within some portal tabs — particularly the Your Team section — there are section header elements that can be customized separately from the tab navigation color.
The Section Headers color controls the color of heading elements within portal tabs.
By default, these may display in a purple or blue tone — if your brand uses a different color scheme, adjust this to match.
The Brand Color field in Portal Settings works alongside your primary color from Company Profile to ensure consistency across all portal elements.
Make sure both are set to your correct brand color so the entire portal feels cohesive.
The primary brand color set in Settings → Company Profile drives button colors and interactive elements. The section header color in Portal Settings controls heading/label elements within tabs. Set both to your brand color for a fully consistent portal experience.
10. The Review Banner
The review banner is a persistent strip that appears along the bottom of the client portal encouraging clients to leave a review. This is one of the most underused features in Broki — it passively collects reviews throughout the entire mortgage process, including during pre-approvals, without you having to ask manually.
How to set up the review banner
1 | Go to Portal Settings → Review Banner section Navigate to Settings → Client Experience → Portal Settings and find the Review Banner section. |
2 | Enter your review link Paste the URL of your Google review page (or any other review platform link) into the link field. |
3 | Write your banner message Enter the message that will appear in the banner. Keep it short and friendly — e.g. 'Enjoying our service? We'd love to hear from you.' or 'Help others find us — leave us a Google review.' |
4 | Set the banner color Adjust the banner background color using the color picker or by entering your hex code. |
5 | Click Save Changes The banner now appears at the bottom of every client's portal. |
Best practice: Set the banner color to a softer shade of your brand color rather than a bold or bright tone — it should be noticeable but not overwhelming. The banner is shown throughout the entire client journey, so keep the message warm and inviting rather than pushy.
This is one of the easiest ways to build your review volume passively. Clients who are happy during the process will see the banner repeatedly and are far more likely to leave a review when prompted at the right moment.
11. The App Banner
If you have a mortgage calculator app (iOS or Google Play), you can display a download banner in the client portal encouraging clients to download it.
How to set up the app banner
In Portal Settings, find the App Banner section.
Toggle Show App Banner in Client Portal to ON.
Paste your app download link in the App Link field. If the iOS and Google Play links are the same (or if you have a universal link), paste it once — otherwise check if there are separate fields for each platform.
Upload an app icon image that represents the app in the banner.
Set the banner start and end colors using the same gradient logic as tab colors (see Section 7). For a solid color banner, set both to the same value.
Click Save Changes.
Only enable this if you actively have an app available for download. A banner linking to a non-functional or non-existent app will create a poor client experience. If you do have an app, this is a great passive touchpoint to drive adoption.
12. Step-by-Step Portal Branding Checklist
